PICS- Pease ID this anemone and offer advice

I picked it up about 3 days ago. It was in a tank labeled bta, but it doesnt appear to be a bta. Or at least its not looking good if it is. It has tannish colored tentacles with purple tips.

What kind is it and what should I be feeding it/how often? Thanks

That looks like a sebae also known as the H. Crispa. It does appear to be healthy. I'd have to see its underside to be absolutely sure. Does its underside have spots all over it ? if not..then it is some thing else.
 
I'm voting H. Magnifica known as ritteri or magnificent anemone. Beautiful specimen but very poor captive survival record. Likes very high flow and lots of light. Will usually migrate to the highest point in the tank and/or right under a powerhead. Good luck.:)
 
possibly H. Magnifica based on those shots .. a closeup picture of the column will help id..

My guess to. H.magnifica. Judging buy that solid colored food and tentacle coloration.

What did you pay for it?
 
i agree with reeferman here.

and if you noticed the foot wasnt in the sand in first set of photos that was good indicator that it might not be a sebae. always ask for a column shot when not 100% sure on the species.
 
btas can some times have a reddish foot. According to the anemone fishes and their host sea anemone book. This is a solid red...hmm..so um if it is a magnifica..do you have the proper light for it?
 
Bubble tip anemone.

the mouth and tentacle shape in the first pic are dead giveaways,

a MAG would have Verracue, visible spots.

dual 250 watt 10K HQI MH
(4) 39 watt HO T-5 bulbs
(9) white + (9) blue LED lunar lights.
Total wattage is 656 watts.

His size when open is about 4". I purchased him for $30.
When you say you want a shot of the water column, I assume your referring to the "mouth" area?

yes there are a few things about the tentacles and mouth that scream BTA to me in the first pic.

the visable spots would be on the base on that red anemone they would be purple or yellow or something. you would see the spots on the base.


the thing that is confusing everyone that say crispa is the coloration of the tentacles is classic crispa.

but the coloration of the foot is Classic magnifica (if it had verracue) but it does not.


I think BTA is the best bet.
 
Look like a nice BTA but you never know for sure.
I see no bubbles on this anemone at all usually new to the tank BTA has some bubbles to them.:confused:

If it is H. Mag, is going to go up to the top next to the lights soon.
It is nice and healthy looking any way:thumbsup:
