What do you mean by "very saturated"...? I'm a noob and want to learn.

I think he means the colour looks overly rich, might not be a representation of what it looks like to the naked eye. To me it looks a little bit purple overall - that could be a WB issue/or combo of your lighting - I know my Royal Blue Cree LED's throw out a alot of purple that needs to be corrected in post through additional WB correction (on top of in camera adjustments). Either way, it is a sharp image

What camera did you use and what settings?

yes I learned from the pros here, to basically use the white sand as the guide. when the sand looks white, others will follow too. [or I hope they do lol ] becomes easier using the click WB.

needless to say, amazing corals and very nice pic still :) my piece is prety bleached out, just purple on the tips ..

I'm using a Canon Rebel XT. Yes the coral is right under my blue lights. Thanks everyone for taking a look

You should have received Digital Photo Professional (DPP) with your Canon camera. Use this program to correct the WB after downloading to your computer. If you shoot in Raw format (over JPEG), you'll gain a bit more control over your post processing (PP) abilities. Open the image in the edit feature in DPP, and you'll see WB settings - I don't have DPP in front of me but as I recall you can use "as shot", "daylight", "shaddy" etc. Or you can use a custom feature instead - this allows you to use the "eyedropper" to move it over your image and pick a pixel that is the basis of your white balancing - it takes some trial and error (clicking a pixel and then undoing) until you find one that gives you a "balanced" image. Shoot for something that is roughly 18% grey.

To boot, do a bit of sharpening and contrast adjustment in DPP, maybe crop if you want to change your composition, and viola! Then "export" it - which essentially means convert from a raw CR2 file to JPEG. Then host and post on RC and have everyone drool!

Hope you don't mind, I tried to adjust the image a bit using DPP. Difficult with a copied JPG (much easier with a raw image), but I tried using the WB eyedropper tool to make it look a little less washed in purple. Better I think, but still a little on the purple side.
