going to pick on you for that one... in a friendly internet way mind you... however, i'd bet this was advertised as such so it's hardly the camera's fault for not having what it doesnt claim to have...

you're right. I forgot to mention that the camera was my wife's choice, not mine. I knew it's features top to bottom before the purchase, but she was adamant that it was easier to use than the canon rebel( my suggestion)

I'll pick a bit also. My D200 doesn't have live view, it doesn't have video. I really don't care about either. I've said in the past I didn't care for shooting at high ISO, but some think it's fine. Just because a camera doesn't have these features, that doesn't make it a bad camera. I don't really want them.

As for the menus, you shoot with Canon and you're used to them. I shoot with Nikon and bet it would take me a bit to figure out yours. Mine is second nature to me.

A couple things here. I am a purist, so I have no use for live view or video, but for the entry level dslr this is an absolute requirement. Nikon dropped the ball on the 3000 on multiple fronts and the popularity of the 3100 with full hd video is testament to that fact. Like it or not, entry level dslrs require live view and hd video.

The fact that nikon did not incorporate live view on the 3000 after the release of canon's rebel was testament to the gap between the two companies at the same price point.

Ken Rockwell may be a complete "bozo" as some here have so stridently said, but I think he is absolutely correct that the 3000 is nikon's worst dslr. IMHO, if u buy a 3000 , you're a bozo.

I see nothing to prove that part. My entry level DSLR was before either existed. Didn't need it then and wouldn't need it now.

That's possible. It still doesn't make it a bad camera. Just means your wife and Rockwell couldn't use it.

This made me lol.

meh, lol or not, entry level enthusiasts demand live view and hd video. The market produced the d3100, a direct answer to entry level demand for Live view and HD video. I guess I'm a bozo too for disagreeing with you.

"The D3000 sold well, despite its rather aged 10 megapixel sensor and lack of both live view and video. However, there's only so long that clever product design and feature integration can make up for a specification that looks dated. So with this in mind, Nikon has announced the D3100 - probably the biggest refresh of its entry-level offering since it really attacked the low end market with the original D40."

You can believe what you'd like. I'm going to believe differently. I lead photography workshops with dozens of folks every year. In any given workshop, it's rare to have more than one person who even gives a crp about live view or video. I have some rather personal experience in the matter.

A much better statement would be, "for my wife, live view and HD video are a must." It's rather presumptuous to believe that everyone feels the same way.

This is kinda funny to me. Entry level DSLR's should be for some one who wants to get into photography Right? in photography are there moving pictures? NO maybe should get a video camera instead..:).. also to learn fundamentals of photography I'd say it would be better to teach through a view finder vs a LCD screen. JMO. It is funny how you are still fighting this.

ALSO if you are talking about the t1i as the canon rebel it was more the price range of the d5000 than the d3000.

Yes, don't need it, but for entry level enthusiasts, they are demanding it. They want Live view cuz they came from a P&S that had it, and they want HD video cuz they know that's what DSLR's are offering now.

On your point of being a bad camera, I'm sorry but the menu system sucks and the body is horrible in low light against competitors in same price range. Just google reviews on it and you'll see how it matches up against Canon's Rebel.

DeadHorse , indeed.

Once again, meh.

I don't appreciate you calling other people "Bozos" in this thread, though I may agree with you on your perception of Ken Rockwell, I come to RC for a friendly conversation without personal attacks and without invective. I would ask that you stop the personal attacks and cease calling others "Bozos"

I happen to agree with you more than you know, but I do not like how you have conducted yourself in this thread. Calling others bozos is just , how should I put it?.... :

LAME.

So your saying the d3000 has worse night, aka high iso noise in low light, than the canon xs, only canon with same price range, I don't know about that.

I used the word "bozo" once in reference to Kent Rockwell. Even Dpreview, whom you're using to support your argument refers to him as such. Googling for "Kent Rockwell bozo" returns 77,300 results. I'm hardly the first to have that opinion.

Get over yourself. You've had no luck trying to argue your point so you're attacking me to save face.

Closed.
