Pictures of my 12g JBJ NC DX

Hi All!

Below are some pictures of my 2-month old 12g JBJ NC DX. I upgraded the pump to a Maxi-jet 900, otherwise the system is completely stock. The tank still sorta looks bare right now. I just added a RBTA yesterday and after a couple of hours my Onyx percula began to host it. The RBTA moved around quite a bit but it seems to have found a nice cozy home, at least for now.

Please give any input on how I can make my tank look better. I'm open to any suggestions! Thanks for looking and I hope you guys enjoy the pics!

Let me know how that anemone works out with the tank/lighting, I have the same lighting in my 14 gallon nano and have been thinking about getting an anemone for my clowns as well. The aquascaping looks really nice, maybe add a little more rock to get closer to the surface??

I think it looks good, the open look of the tank allows for more swimming room. Tanks packed with rocks look ugly.

that is a very nice nano cube 12
only thing i would advise against would be the anemone. Because it can start chemical warfare with the other corals in your tank...but other then that it should be fine, just keep up with water changes

Where did you get this information? Anemones aren't corals and AFAIK they don't release chemicals which damage corals. They can sting fish or corals if in direct contact.

The tank looks great. Conventional wisdom would say your tank isn't old enough for an anemone and doesn't have enough light. But if the RBTA is healthy, then that is all that matters.

The fish is a Centropyge argi aka pygmy angelfish aka cherub angelfish. It is the smallest of the dwarf angels but could outgrow that tank. I wouldn't put one in anything smaller than a 20g.

I decided to get the anemone after reading the website, "Karen's Rose Anemones and Their Care," in its entirety. In her website Karen wrote, "They (RBTA) will thrive under PC light very well if you have rock work that they can climb up on to reach more light if feel the need to." So I figured 48W of PC lighting, given the condition that the anemone will be less than a foot away from the light source, should be sufficient for the RBTA. In addition, I plan on feeding the anemone q.o.d so meeting the anemone's metabolic requirements should not be a problem.

On her awesome website Karen also wrote that one's tank "should be at least 6 months old and stable before introducing a RBTA." The live rocks that I have in the cube was cooked for approximately 6 months and are completely covered with coralline algae and free of detritus. My rationale for introducing a RBTA so early is that
1. The 6-months that people refer to probably takes into account the curing process of live rocks. So I consider my tank close to "6 months old" =P.
2. My Acan lord is doing extremely well in the cube.
3. I should buy the anemone first, let it get situated, and place new corals around it in order to avoid the chemical warfare from taking place.
4. It was $45 bucks and I couldn't pass it up!!!

I will certainly update how the RBTA is doing periodically so that others may learn from my success or failure. Currently the RBTA is well. It's fully expanded and doesn't seem to be bothered by my Onyx Percula too much.

Sweet set up! I wish my cube looked that good. I think I overpacked it with rock. I like the slightly more sparse look. Unfortunately I'm moving overseas and am going to be selling mine soon. Another move, another opportunity for a new tank set up....

How loud is the hum from the Maxijet 900? I am using a minijet 606 and can hear it a little louder than I would like.

I barely notice the hum. It's more quiet than my computer fans. Maybe you should try to reposition the minijet.
