This was right before the lights went out.
He had seperated himself from the shell he has always lived on, but tonite when I got home and picked him up, he was reattached.....hopefully thats a good sign

mine did that and died the next day. i know yours connected back to the shell though. the reason mine died was because of temp. how high is yours getting? mine died at 83 or 84.

It is about 79 or 80 in the day and 77-78 at nite.........I am debating a FW dip over the weekend if he makes it that long......

30 minutes in fw with a heater, an airstone or powerhead, and squirt a bit of alk buffer in the bucket. It's scary but it works.
Check your levels..CA,. Alk, SG, NO3, & PO4.
If he survives, get him off the sandbed and up into the rockwork, as close to your lights as you can get him. Work him up slowly, and give him time to recover from the PM. Improve your water quality.

So this morning at 8:30 am I did a FW dip for 28 minutes. He did not look happy at all. When I put him back in the tank, he was all sucked in, and had closed most of the way. Please keep your fingers crossed for him and send some good karma his way.......Thanks for the help guys.

I've never had a successful FW dip with a clam but others have. It's hard to say what it will do. It does look slightly detached on the side which isn't a good sign. But at least he is open some. My tank temps run from 81 to 83 so temp is not an issue for clams/corals. Once you push over 86, I'd begin to worry.

have you check him for those pyramid snails? How old is this clam? Has it grown any since you first got it? Are you attempting to feed it?

Yes, no PS. He has been with me for almost 3 years. No, not attempting to feed it. I dont know, but I wonder if my GSM hosting him irritated him as well as the poor water quality.

Update on the clam? You do not have to feed clams directly.

Actually, I did feed him last night.......he died a few hours later =(

Yikes..what were you feeding him? {may have clogged his in-syphon} Clams feed fine on their own, they have full ability. The in-syphon can actually pump water. They eat what is in the water column, detritus...

I took some tank water and put the water, some phyto, and the clam in a bowl for like a half hour.........put him back in the tank and the snails were all over him about 2 hours later. Im just sad because I had him for 3 years, he went though some hellish times with tank changes. I dont think there was anything that severe with my water quality to kill him, but who knows..........Thanks for the kind words guys.

Sucks. Clams are so fickle. Sorry for your loss. I think he did look better after the fw dip though.
