welp I'm done with rock, now just gonna wait untill everything is at zero. ammonia is at .25 and nitrites at .25 so I still have a little ways to go. The rock wasn't as cured as I had hoped when I bought it. But no big deal. Onlything in there right now is 10 red leg hermits.

I removed all the bioballs that were in chamber two that came stock and added a bunch of LR rubble. I'm wanting to get some cheato for it aswell. Welp what do ya'll think so far?

looks like shes all ready to go.i like the rockwork,plenty of caves.how long till you can start adding corals to it?
 
Looks good! I agree with what saltycreefer said - if you can't easily get your scraper between the rocks and the glass you'll be looking at algae there. Also, although it looks cool and your fish will enjoy swimming under them, those white branch pieces might be hard to place corals on later. If it was me I'd try putting them under the other boulder-like pieces, it would make it look like the big pieces were hovering a couple inches off the sand. That way it would make for ledges for fish to go under, more of your sand bed would be exposed, and you could easily place frags on top later. Or another idea - I don't know what size that tank is but when I had a 15 tall I used branch pieces like that placed vertically, like a tree, to place small frags close to the light while not taking any of the real estate of the main rock surfaces.
That's my 2 cents anyhow
 
thanks for the comments and suggestions guys. alizarin, I bought the stick rock basically for this purpose so I'm gonna have to keep it pokin everywhere, lol. I honestly dont plan on putting to many corals in here where it would be a problem placing them.

anyone have any suggestions on a submersable light? I would like to get the refuge going and really dont want to cut the back of the tank. I would love to find a small enough light I can put in the water to grow the chaeto. Also lookin for some chaeto, the couple pet stores Ive been to haven't had any.
 
Cheato - ichy things in oldsmar has it I hear. Post a request for it in the group and someone will give you some though, I would but I'm low. Forget what I said about the stick rock - I think it'll look cool and different what you're doing with it =)
What do you mean by cut the back of the tank - is that a nanocube? I don't know about submersible lights but there are a few lights that fit on top of a nanocube.. go to nanotuners.com.
 
thanks guys, I got convienced to change the rockwork up a bit from the peeps over in the nano section. This is what it looks like currently. I'm sick of messing with the rock so this is probably what it will look like for the rest of its life...lol. Anyway, I had a huge spike in nitrites and nitrates after I put the branch in. currently its at 0 ammonia , 2.0 nitrite, and 80 nitrate...lol I would say it wasn't cured. will the nitrate go down with cycling or just the nitrites? Anyway, this is the tank atm

LMK, if you need anything. I new you were gonna convert from your cichlid tank. Now Im just waiting to see your post on your new 75gallon reef....
 
not till after college man, would love to but just can't mess with the price on that size just yet. The cichlids are really ****ing me off though. a couple months ago they almost killed another one, but I got to him just in time to save em. I ended up buying a little eclipse to use as a hospital and planned on putting him back in the 75 as soon as he healed up. I honestly think he is loving the eclipse, but I tried to put em in the big tank last week and they immediately started picking at him.

I even removed all the rock when I put him in...its almost like they knew and had been waiting on his return...haha. I want to get rid of this little eclipse tank
 
Them crazy Africans...they're too wild for me man! I do miss watching them eat up guppies...and begin a duel.
 
thats all they do is fight, I have a lab that nonestop chases a male kenyi around....but, if anyone else tries to mess with the male kenyi...the male lab is all over em. He's the only one thats allowed to beat em up I guess.
