PIF - Nepthia colony

I have a decent sized colony of neon green Nepthia. In the tradition that was started by Steve (Funman1), this was given to me as a frag. Now I am paying it forward (PIF) to a reefer at no charge. The PIF code is that frags of this coral are only to be given away to reefers to promote sharing of our sucesses.

This is similar to mine, bright neon green.

A easy coral to keep, likes decent water flow, lower light and feeding with fine dissolved reef food.

I'll bring it to the meeting Friday. Do you have room for the whole colony? It's about 5" tall, 1" stalk diameter attached to a rock.

Ahhh, the MARS nepthya (as verified by Eric). One of my favorites. Was it attached when you got it from Steve? Tough to get it to stick if you cut it. How are you going bind it to the base?

We have some very generous people here at MARS. Formalizing the PIF arrangement is a good idea. Loved the movie.

Shiela said that it's attached to a rock currently. I had read that it's hard to get to attach and that the best method was using wedding veil to loosely hold it down. Being very new...if I'm to frag this and PIF in the future, be assured I will be turning to you all for advice on that.

I didn't actually get it from Steve, it's just the Steve PIF idea.

I got the frag from Dan Garcia and it's nicely attached to a rock, possibly two. I used rubber bands with little success and found that pinning the stem between two rocks works best. In taking it out, I may have to split it to have the two rocks each have a bit.

Also, this is one of the more toxic (to other corals) softies when stressed. If you frag this, do it outside of you main tank and let the frags heal in a QT or grow-out tank running carbon and gentle flow.

I have a masonary blade in an old chop saw. I use it to cut aquarium rock. The blade is smooth and won't cut you unless you press hard on it. I'd be happy to cut the rock if needed. Heck, I'll even bring it to the meeting.

The two rocks are fairly small, thanks Brian. I won't neet to cut them.I may need to cut the stalk of the coral, it appears to be attached to each of the rocks. The two rocks are in the sand away from the rest of the reef.

I've cut the rock and tissue in half a bunch of times. It does well as long as the pieces of tissue that are attached to rock.
