Pink Birds nest.

Where is your birds nest in your tank. High or low?

I have had a frag for about a year thats done nothing! not even encrusted to the rock. Its about 4inches below T5 Bulbs.

Should I lower it?

I have mine about 8 inches from 8x54 T5s and it's growing well. Try lowering it and see what happens. What is the color like?

My 6x39w T5's are about 4" above the water, and my pink w/purple polyp birdsnest is looking lovely about 14" below surface for about 18" from the lights total.

Here he is in the back ground next to the Tubs green birdsnest.

Bird's nest aren't really a encrusting coral. They mostly grow multiple branches with out encrusting much. Thats very surprising that you've had it for that long and it hasn't grown. Whats your flow like? What kind and how many bulbs do you have it under? Is it bleached out in color?

I keep my Ponape Birdsnest ( yellow/green branch w/ pink tips) lower in the tank. It started as a 1" frag and has doubled in size about month and half. I use MH 2x150w 14k lamps only, 8hr photoperiod. Ca 420, Dkh 8-9, PH 8.1-.3

Im at work so I cant snap a new pic. This pic is a couple weeks old, the birds nest are in the center of the pic. I moved one frag lower in the tank a day before this pic. The color is pink, I think it looks o.k.

What do you think?

Hard to tell, not a close up, but looks good. Are the other corals showing signs of growth? What are your water parameters? Also I hope you attatched your frags well, GSM are notorous for rearranging and knocking things down, based on exp. with them.

I have my birdsnest low in my 75 gallon (about 3 inches off of the sand bed ) under 2 175 watt Iwasaki 15 K's and 2 110 watt actinic VHO's. It is growing very fast and has colored up to a very vibrant pink color.

I can post a pic if you would like to see how it is looking under my setup.

imo flow is more important to growth and color; I have a large birdsnest that keeps it's color when it is in high flow, even when i put it lower and between the bulbs.

I would say medium light. It is off center from one of the halides and just off of the sand bed. It has only been permanantly crazy glued to that spot on the rock for about a month and a half. It was on a mounting disk that I had temp glued to the same spot. I removed the disk and permanantly attached it to the rock where it will stay.

Here is a pic when I 1st purchased it. You can see it was brown and now has colored up and showing a lot of growth at the tips.

I agree with flow being more important than light. I have the feeling the birdnest in my tank do much better in good flow.

Seriatopora hystrix has the pointy tips while Seriatopora caliendrum and guttatus have the more rounded.
