Pink skunk clown question?

since looking into getting another pair of clowns i have decided to go ahead and try the pink skunk clowns like mentioned to me on here before. anyhow i got a few questions to those who have or have had pink skunk pair before.

1. are they like most other clowns were they will comonly host other corals?
2. what is the best anemone for them?
3. at about what age do they really start to pair and decide who is male and who is female?

basicly i have been told that pink skunks are the least agressive clowns out there. so this is why i am wanting to get a pair. i have had many other clowns but never skunks so i wanted to be sure i am prepaired for any differences i may encounter with them.

Mine paired as a true mated pair after about 6 months. Since they were likely 5-8 months old when I bought them, that yields a minimum of1 yr old fish before settling on a mate. Don't know about anemones, as I like my sps a bit more. One thing to keep in mind w/ pink skunks if you are planning on breeding is they are VERY TIMID and can and will stop at a moments notice. My experience with these guys was similar to J. Wilkerson's experience. They had a few clutches spread out about 2.5 months, then stopped spawning completely. A more dedicated local 'clowner' bought the pair from me and has had success with multiple spawns since that time.
 
I have had my pair for about 3 years now. I bought them at the same time, but were in different tanks. They pretty much formed a pair right away, and within 4-6 months it was easy to tell which one was the female. It took them another 16 months or so to start spawning, and now they do it every 14 days -- give or take.

Mine have become more aggressive since they started spawning, but not as bad as other clowns. A while back I paired up my existing Potter's angel with a small female. The pink skunks gave the new addition a harder time then the existing Potter's did. That lasted about 2 weeks. However, they still rule the tank.

Nothing seems to bother my pair when they are spawning, even was able to take pictures of their very first spawn, and that didn't effect them at all.

As for being hosted, my pair were hosted by an LTA, and now are currently hosted by my blue Haddoni.

Oh, and my pair is pretty "vocal", if I sit right infront of the tank, near their anemone they will start to "bark" at me --- their whole body shakes when they do that.

You have to post a video of that! My tomato pair swoop and dart at me when I wear a read shirt with smalle black and white stripes. I think they think I'm a killer tomato clown on the loose....:lol:

Mine used to chirp at each other when they were fighting for dominance...it was really funny. If the room was quiet, I could hear them pretty clearly.
 
i for sure will take some pictures! i hope to have good luck with this pair of clowns. every pair i have ever had has been very mean.

can you really hear them "bark" speak?
 
I have had a pair (Fifi and LePeu) from the time they were about 1/2" to 3/4" long. Bought them at the lfs from a single batch of 10 or so they got in and have had them for almost 4 years now.

I know it sound crazy and if I hadn't seen it I would not have believed it but here is what recently happened. I upgraded from a 75 to a 150. The 75 was on one side of a up/down staircase and the 150 was on the other and I moved stuff from the old to the new as time allowed. The fish were last (lots easier to catch corals :lol:)

One morning I woke up and found LePeu in the over flow of the 75 (I had a tank long overflow that was 5"x5" and had 3 holes drilled behind to the sump) He was merrily swimming back and forth and since he was in this confined space it made it easy to catch him. Then I procrastinate as I usually do and left Fifi in the 75 for a good 2 or 3 weeks longer.

One day my wife (who is a LOT more sensitive than I am, I know and I admit it) said "Fifi is so lonely she stays on the right side of the 75 and LePeu stays on the left of the 150 so they can be closer together because they miss each other" I laughed and said "hogwash" or something similar and thought good lord, they are tiny little fish with tiny little brains, they know how to swim, eat and sleep, miss each other phew!

I took her statement as "get of your lazy A** and get that stuff move so we can get that 75 out of the living room" so that weekend I started breaking down the 75 and draining water, removing rock to make it easier to catch Fifi.

Much to my surprise, once I acclimated her to the new tank she and LePeu immediately started swimming in small circle around each other and this went on for hours at a time the only break was one or the other swimming out around the new digs for a minute or two and then back to the circle dance.

So there you have it, I learned, amazingly that apparently they did 'remember' each other, they were 'happy' to be together again, and they seemed to have missed each other. If I think back I have almost convinced myself that before the move, when they were separated, maybe they really DID spend time on each side of their tank that was closest to the other.

I also learned that I need to be REALLY careful what I say out loud in front of my wife......

Heck, I am sitting on the couch right now, watching some football. I am about 10 feet away from the tank and the TV isn't all that loud, but I can clearly hear them "barking" right now. Not sure who in the tank is ticking them off -- the lights are still off.
 
that is so cool that they do that. i am looking forward to hearing that first hand.

anyhow, i finally got them today after alot of asking questions and researching to make sure they were not going to be mean. they defilently are different then the other clowns i have had in the past and my wife loves them too death. as soon as i took her to the LFS and showed her her heart was set on them and she made sure she got to pick out the first fish. i took a few pictures and i will post them up as soon as i have a chance to upload them. they even took to hosting my frogspawn, duncans and my huge toadstool right away. they keep switching back and fourth between them. but they refuse to be apart right now.

i thank all who helped me with these clowns. i am sure my wife is thankful too lol
 
ok, i finally got some pictures up loaded. they have chosen too host 3 different corals and are always together. they have shown abit of aggression to my other fish around these 3 corals though. not too bad but i really hope it doesnt get worse... anyhow on too the pictures, i hope you like them.

Awww...I'm jealous! I never could get mine to host in my long-polyped toadstool. What's neat is that they use Stichodactyla gigantea as a host in the wild, and IMO Sarcophytons look kind of like S. gigantea when the polyps are out (and you don't have to deal with the finicky care issues of an anemone that was taken from the wild :thumbsup:). This makes me want pink skunks again. They look great--I know you will enjoy them.
 
Great looking pair. Sure that in time you will find them as great to have/watch as I have mine. Even though I have had mine for about 3 years now, I still love just watching them.
 
thanks for the comments! me and my wife are both enjoying them so far and there aditudes are defilently better then all the other clowns i have had so far.

i guess i am lucky they are hosting in the toadstool because i was just getting ready to take it outa my tank. it is rather large now and blocking light for some other corals, but this now gives me a reason to keep it in the tank :)
