Pink Tail Trigger...coming home soon

So I have a 6" pink tail trigger that will be added to the tank soon. Currently the tank only has one flame angel in it that I kept from my old 120 before I upgraded to the 180 in wall.

Any advice about these would be appreciated. I have read that they are very messy eaters.

I am running a bare bottom tank with some extra flow so think I am ok there.

I have been checking on him as for they have had him in QT for me at my LFS. He has a ton of personality which is one of the things I like about triggers. My niger trigger is the same way he loves attention.

They are loose cannons in reef tanks, 70% of the time there safe, but the other 30 they can loose hell. They get large I would say to large for a 120 and can knock over rocks

IME, smaller is better. I have had some of the ones that were totally cool in reefs. However, while reef safe, they are not all that reef friendly. ...they need to eat A LOT to keep them happy. I had a 4.5 to 5 inch one that would eat a whole sheet of nori by it's self in about 30 seconds. If you underfeed them, they will get nasty.

Well my hope is that since I am bare bottom and run high flow that I can feed extra for him and still keep a clean tank.

Being bare bottom will help out more than anything, IMO, so long as you can remove anything that doesn't make it into the overflow. I overfeed my FOWLR and have incredibly messy eaters, and do still rely on snails and emerald crabs to clean up what doesn't make its way to the filter sock/skimmer.

I kept one in a 120g mixed reef for about a year. It was too large and was constantly tearing up the tank. Was a very, very entertaining and personable fish though. He currently resides in a friends' 750g reef tank and he looks like a football. Literally.
