Hi All,
Im keen to attempt to breed Pinnate Batfish. Ive had one for a few years now and have found that he has taught other Pinnates to eat over time. Im interested in using him to breed with other healthy\eating specimens. Just wondering if anyone knows of ANYBODY that has ever achieved this? Or if there is any published media on it?
I have never been able to find any information out there on them and if anything Im generally the person people in my local community ask for advice.
I feel I know how to pick healthy stock, keep them long terms and even a few tricks to get the stubborn ones eating etc etc but I now need information based on their breeding habits etc.
As an example, say I have two of them I need assistance in sexing them as my understanding is that the difference is very subtle and quite hard to determine.
Secondly dwarf angels need a very 'tall' tank to breed in to replicate their habitat in the wild but they can be kept happily in a standard height tank for a display. Similarly with the batfish ive got mine in a 2.5ft high tank but they are an egg layer and I just wanted to get a feel for what people might think their mating habits may be.
Please dont get the wrong impression here either, this is something im passionate about and am doing very very slowly. I haven't gone through 50 pinnate fish to find one that eats I was just very very very lucky to be good friends with my LFS who had one who was eating large meaty foods and as such it was an educated decision which paid off. I dont recommend others do this but I feel with patience and research I could be one day successful in hopefully producing tank bred specimens (obviously this is years away).
Any information and feedback would be welcome. Thanks - Jason
