Pintail fairy wrasse

Grats on the pintail im loving mine! As for DD, I would call thier fish more 'conditioned' then 'qt'd' but I still appreciate that holding fish, fattening them up, and then guaranteeing them put alot more of an investment into those fish and find the prices acceptable. I've had a few DD fish over the years and still have them in my tanks.

Being in Montana I just don't have alot of options, but I can say PIA, DD, Nicewrasse, and NYA have all given me great fish at a price I felt was more than fair and have had great results.

I just hope my pintail grows up to look that nice gseigal!!

I paid $440 shipped for my pair of pintails. I like them better than the rhomboid and they all get along well together. The rhomboid really does not have much interaction with either pintails nor does he change color around them. Rhomboid eats well and I give him a vary diet but the colors are washed out.

However, the male pintail will start to flush blue and do a up and down dance with the female pintail. The female will also have some blue flushing but not nearly as strong as the male.

Mine came in from DD yesterday and the packaging was incredible and it looked great especially for braving the 15 degree temps. He was eating PE Mysis less than an hour out of the bag :)

got a couple pics of mine flashing today. sorry the pictures aren't too good. the camera flash kind of flatten the colours.

thanks people!

Lemon do you have a female as we'll or is the male flashing like that all alone? And very nice pictures.

Hi MikeandNicole,

this male is paired with a female, and he was flashing at her. in the 3rd photo you can see a tiny piece of tail from the female in the background being blocked.

this pair of pintail lives in a smaller cube tank with a cf. lunatus shown here. no aggression between the two males, and the two species sometimes display to the female pintail.

in my main display tank, i have a terminal male Cirrhilabrus brunneus, that lives with a hybrid pintail x lunatus. there is a female in there as well. mixing the brunneus and the hybrid was very challenging and i had to shuffle the two males in and out numerous times until they finally got along. there's no fighting now, but once in awhile they will display to each other, as well as toward the single female pintail in the same display.

keeping two tanks is the only way i can keep brunneus, pintail, lunatus and the hybrid without them fighting. if all four were to be in one tank, it would be disastrous. i want all four as a collection. seeing as i have a hybrid, it makes sense to keep the two parent species as well.

DD has no Real QT procedure at all. Let's get this straightened out to begin with. Most people read that they QT and are happy about this, but in reality they don't have a true QT procedure. What they do is take new fish put them directly into the system with the old fish, that are "in QT" as you know that is not how you QT fish. This is also what a typical LFS does. DD will not sell you sick or ones that don't eat either. Well you can go to a Lfs and watch a fish and see if it is sick or eating. As for DD being overpriced YES it is. I can go to a dozen Lfs in my area and get the same fish cheaper that are QTed the same exact way. As for high end fish, there are 5 Lfs that carry the pintails right now as I speak and not one has had one listed for over 300. The Japanese crescent tails are 300 right now around me. I paid 250 for my diamond tail flasher as well. DD had them at over 300. Also the fact that DD is mainly supplied by Quality Marien as well as most of the Lfs in my area, I would say that there is a big difference in prices. The Lfs are usually cheaper, I mean one place sells the Juvi Chevrons and Achilles for 100, while DD sells them for well over 200.

Hey can you pm me which 5 LFS have the pintails right now? I live in SI I would like to go check them out and maybe pick one up for myself.

Thanks in advance

Absolutely gorgeous. I might have to get a female for my male lunatus and see the show. Incredible wrasses Lemon. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful active fish eating like a champ!

plus, the ones that are caught in japan are usually pre-sold in japan, never got a chance to leave the country. Japanese reefers are very hardcore, they don't mind spending the money on a rare fish.

Please forgive my ignorance here but does anyone have any reservations buying this fish because it's from the Philippines? I've heard all the cyanide stories and am leery because of them. Can someone please educate me?
