Pipefish dominated tank....

MADtanks

Stix Anyone?
Ok I am wanting to start a tank specifically for pipefish 30G finnex M(glass) tank. I would like to know if it would be ok to keep diff species of pipe fish in one tank? I want to keep.....

a pair of blue stripe pipes, 1 banded, and 1 dragon face..... would this be ok?

for a skimmer i am going to go with a deltec MCE300 and for circulation i will use 2 tunze 6055 on a controller, why so much flow? for all my SPS that will be moved into this tank. I want to start a build thread but i havent received my tank yet still waiting... just wantig to know if my pipe stocking is good or not. Thank you in advance.

pipefish do better then seahorses in tanks with high flow.
I would get more dragon pipes, they are great little guys with alot of personality, and IME very hardy, compared to other pipefish such as the bluestripe.

hello
this sounds like it could workvery well! pipe fish tanks are amazing tosimply moniter and appreciate, just make sure you do a greatamount of research before setting up!

erick, i saw some multibanded and bandeds at puppy center a few days ago. i am also planning on a 20 Long frag tank with a pair of multibanded pipes. very cool fish. where do you plan on buying urs?

yea i have been doing research on these little guys for a while now, and i had a multi banded in my office tank but the poor little guy decided to go swimming in the overflow and back thru the return pump, u get the pic :(

bobby i got my initial one from puppy center, but i want to get a pair of dragon face, a pair of blue stripe, and maybe a pair of multibanded.... the tank will be strickly pipefish and maybe a mandarin but i doubt it. as far as where i will get them will probably be from the web somewhere.... i have the link somewhere but i have to find it where they have all the pipes i want in stock :)

thanks guys :) i will keep you all posted

erickrm, the pipefish will outcompete the mandarin for food, so I wouldn't put one in a tank together with all of those pipefish unless they are ALL eating prepared foods. Even then, I personally wouldn't do it, because they all do need copepods to supplement their diet for maximum health, and I don't think that would be possible with the stocking density you are looking at.

that is the exact reason why i don't think i will do it anymore, i just didn't want to deal with trying to get rid of all the fish in my current tank and my dad's tank already has a mandarin so i figured i would keep mine but in the end i would much rather just have pipefish anyways :) thank you for the heads up anyway.
