Pipefish in the reef

I have kept seahorses before but not in a reef environment.

I am in the process of putting together my 30g breeder. My current plan for corals is montis, lps (no euphyllias such as hammers)and zoos. Would pipefish work with this combo of corals? I have seen many nice pipefish around, but not too many for sale. Where can I get pipefish? How many would i be able to keep in the 30?

Second part: I know that most of these fish have been trained to eat frozen food, but if I had to feed live how hard is it to hatch live brine or mysid for food? What exactly would I need to get this setup?

Thanks for any help. And if there is any other information that anyone is willing to give, I am all ears.

Hatching artemia (brine shrimp) is relatively easy. With a little reading on the subject you should be able to understand this process well. Usually you'll need the basics, salt, water, air pump, possibly a heater, brine shrimp net, and whatever you choose to propogate them in. They do have 2 liter bottle attachment things that work pretty slick. Keeping the brine shrimp to grow until adults is another question though. Mysids are a bit harder to propogate, most don't do it for this reason.

I have 2 banded pipefish in my 100 mixed reef with many pods for them to eat. They come out durring regular feedings (with remainder of fish) as well. I have hatched live brine but find it's not required. Anyway, I just added the second pipefish and the two are going at it already. In otherwords, I will give it a week or two, and if they can't work it out, he's yours (to purchase). I live in Cleveland, you can PM me if you want. These fish are normally very peaceful and a real blast to watch, very social.

As was said I keep a pair of blue stripe pipes in a reef with mostly LPS corals. I doubt you could keep many of them because the males will probably fight (but I am not really certain of this) My pair mate about once a month and the male gives birth. They find food on their own like a mandarin but I hatch baby brine every two days anyway.
The male is pregnant here.

I've got 5 Jans pipefish in a 32 with a pair of seahorses and softies. I culure pods in a separate tank although there are plenty in there already.

Got 'em from Live

I have two pipefish in the reef. A Janss' and a yellow banded. The yellow banded is not eating frozen food but that's what an established reef is for, isn't it? There's a fuge and the mandarin eats frozen so he's not a drain on the pod population.
