Pipefish or Seahorses

Im starting up a seahorse ricordea tank, but im thinking maybe pipefish rather than seahorses. TO get my tank ready im currently putting on a refuge, protein skimmer, phosphate reactor, and a uv steralizer. I feel like my water quality and everything would be fine to host pipefish, im also trying to breed copepods so they will hav plenty of food.

My question is to those who hav had both seahorses and pipefish, which are more fun to watch, harder to keep, just better overall to have?

If your aquarium is taller than it is long, go with seahorses. If it is long but less than 24" tall, go with pipefish. If it is long, and more than 24" tall, then take a look at what else you want to keep in the aquarium in terms of tankmates, and what type of environment your aquarium will be, and see which will fit best with what else you want.

my tank is 24in tall and 20in wide and for tankmates i hav no idea but coral wise im gonna do all ricordeas and im also gona put micro algae in the tank aswell

I will give you an answer (I know that when I am asking questions on here, I want concrete opinions). I would say go with seahorses. They are easier to feed in my opinion. It is hard to find a pipefish that is trained to eat frozen mysis. I bought one that was supposed to eat frozen but when I got him to my tank, he never took the frozen again (He died). I have not heard of anyone selling captive bred pipefish. I generally do an EXTREME amount of research on things, and I can't find any. Wild caught or reportedly shorter lived and have more health problems along the way in an aquarium. Captive bred seahorses are not hard to find. I have four. They have eaten frozen mysis like little pigs since about 12 to 24 hrs after I put them in my tank. I have macroalgae and a clean-up crew plus a purple firefish and a white sleeper goby. I would not recommend the goby, but the firefish is great. Good luck.
