Pipefish

I have a pair of Dragon Faced for 3+ Years, pair of Janns for 18 months, Australian Blue Line for about 14 months.

I have been keeping Dragon faced for the past 10 years. With a good pod population they thrive. Whenever I try to add more than 2 the additional ones vanish.

My dragon faced are out and hunting all the time. My Janns I kept a glimpse of about once every 6 months if I happen to be up at 3 am when the lights are in the last phase of dimming.

However, in the past 2 weeks I have been doing some work in the tank and with my arm in the tank up to my armpit twice the Janns have cruised across the tank to brush past my arm.

The Australian Blue line is also something that i seldom see. Every 6 months or so I will catch it cruising underneath a piece of shelf rock and then it vanishes again.

If you want to see them you want the dragon faced.

Agmmast -- I can do one better..... Check out the tank on the public webcam... Lights turn on at 4:30pm Pacific time on weekdays. Dragon faced pipes are usually cruising the bottom of the tank. The camera is PTZ so you can zoom in to see the eyes of the pipefish and then follow them around the tank.

Chances of seeing the Janns or Blue line is pretty much between slim and none - They are never out in the open and don't appear when the lights are on full power.

I've got two banded pipe fish & a multibanded pipe fish that I have had for months. I did however just loose my dragon face. Pipefish are relatively difficult fish to keep and need a really well established tank with a lot of live rock and lots of copepods. While my banded pipe fish will eat mysis they spend their day picking through the live rocks. My multibanded pipefish will only eat copepods. The same was the case for my dragon face.

The blue striped pipefish (Doryrhamphus excisus) is pretty outgoing and swims out in the open often. I would recommend keeping a pair as sexing is easy and they become even more outgoing.
They also often adapt well to frozen foods like Mysis and brine shrimp though mine still only take life food.
