Pisto/goby pairing

I am sad to report that my red-banded goby died today after a losing battle with some wierd nerological problem. My question is: if I decide to replace him, will I need to get the same species? and what are the odds that my pistol shrimp will accept the new tennent? Is there some kind of process for indroducing them slowly?

IME, all shrimp gobies and/or pistol shrimp I have introduced will accept each other. no process really, the shrimp will either accept the new goby or get rejected. Good luck with your future goby

I lost my first goby and thought i lost my pistol also but almost a year later i put a new goby in and they found each other right away. Pretty cool to see him after all that time.
