Pistol shrimp are hit or miss it seems. You'll read sharply divergent tales. The few that I've kept seemed to be generally passive unless something came near the burrow. They will "shoot" if their home is threatened.
Also, getting a pistol to pair with a goby isn't too difficult, especially in a 10g. I'd try a simple Randall's or Tiger pistol shrimp. They're common and relatively inexpensive. Avoid a bullseye pistol or one of the caribbean pistols that pair with anemones instead of gobies.
