Pistol Shrimp / Goby

Does anyone have a pair. Yes Steve I bought one couldn't resist and yes if it doesn't work once again I will break down my tank or try to catch an animal you told me not to add for the third time.

He made a home in the front of the tank (good) and the goby hangs out around the entrance sometimes (good). But on day 4 I have now seen him use 3 different entrances that he made on the other side (bad) and he only comes out at night how do I spot feed this guy?. Will he eat flake?

What was the reaosn not to get the pair. I have always thought it sounded like a fun thing to have until they have openings only behind your rock or they undermine your entire rock structure.

I have had the same yellow watchman goby for about 3 years now. He once had a tiger pistol that I matched him up with for the first year. They never left each others side. That pistol died after about a year and a half and the one I replaced him with I have never seen since I put him in the tank. I can hear him though :)

I wanted to set up my tank which is only 30 gallons with different little areas of interest. I have all the base rock on little pieces of eggcrate at the corners so it can burrow all it wants and it won't come tumbling down (knock on wood). I don't mind it coming out the back it just makes it more difficult to spot feed. I guess I should've asked is it neccessary to spot feed?

I've got a pistol and YWM goby. They are pretty entertaining. I see the pistol almost every day. He's always working on his caves.

The only thing I don't like is that I can't put corals on the sand bed. I can't even put anything 3 inches over the sand bed without a little risk that he'll redecorate and bury the coral.

I take it that a pistol shrimp is a bad idea with oolite sand? I guess and digging fish is a bad idea then.

I've never bothered spot feeding any of my pistols except this tiny one I've got in my frag tank that I'm trying to grow up quick.

I don't spot feed him and I don't think it would be necessary. I figure he's there to find what the fish don't get.

I have a purple lobster and not long after putting him in the tank I started missing fish, after 4 fish missing he was banned to the sump.I have not had any missing fish since. They seem to be very opertunistic and beside you never see them.

Ive had a pistol shrimp for over a year and have never ever seen it. It came as a hitchhiker, and this whole yr ive worried it was a mantis (all that ticking) I finally found a molt 3 days ago and finally figured out its a pistol!! Im thinking about getting a gobie now...
