pistol shrimp molting???

I've got a randalli pistol shrimp paired with a yasha goby. I've only had them for about 2 weeks. However, usually when my yasha gobies are out, the randalli will peak out, too. However, for the last 2 days, I haven't seen him at all. Could he be molting and simply just hiding until his shell hardens?? I've seen my common cleaner shrimp do this. However, he usually only hides for no more than 2 days.

Most shrimp will hide for a couple days, just wait a while, if he doesnt come out in around 4 days than I would start getting worried. He probably just molted and is hiding, waiting for his shell to harden.
You can try to lure it out with some foods, that usually gets them back on track.
Or it could be hiding somewhere else maybe?

thanks for the info. sorry that I didn't mention this. But, it usually also closes up the burrow each night. Also during the day, you can see that the sand has been moved around by the shrimp, regardeless if I've seen him out or not. For the last 2 days, I haven't seen any sand moved around. Still just molting or could something be wrong?? Thanks for any help!

still haven't seen him since 6/10. Hopefully, he's still molting!!!

I don't see mine very often, but I do hear them so I know they're still alive. Is your pistol shrimp making any noise?

hmmm, not sure. I'll have to try to listen for him this week. However, when I feed the fish/clean out the skimmer, or dose the tank, i haven't heard anything.

okay, just to give everyone an update. It's official, the pistol somehow died. I'm not sure what killed it. These are my guesses after keeping the pistol for over 2 weeks:

1. change in salinity d/t water change
2. Using Fluke Tabs as a dip on acro's (treating outside of tank) and residual that was still on the acro got into tank and killed the shrimp
3. my common cleaner shrimp killed it
4. hermits killed it
5. bad molt and died
6. it was old and it was just it's time to die

It's very strange. I'll have to be very careful with 1 and 2 the next time. I think reasons 3 and 4 are unlikely. However, I'll also just keep a real close eye on my cleaner shrimp.

Don't be surprised if the goby killed it. My 1st i got i put the shrimp & goby in a container so they would get to know each other which they did & @ night the goby turned on him.
