There is a pistol shrimp in my reef ?

Anyone have any bad experiences with them?

Any recommendations for removal?

As long as you are sure it is a Pistol Shrimp and not a Mantis Shrimp you will be fine. Most people, myself included, pay money to have a Pistol Shrimp in their tanks :)

I think I have one aswell. At night I hear these 'snaps' coming from my tank. They arn't very loud but loud enough to where it gets my attention.

My lawnmower blenny is MIA for the past month now... Looked everywhere in my tank and around my tank to see if it jumped but I think the pistol got him.

I love'em. Mine has created a burrow along the side of the tank, so you can see it bulldozing around in there. It's like an ant farm.

Cool shrimp… especially when paired up with gobies (shrimp gobies), then you tend to see the shrimp more, its a great symbolic relationship to watch.

nice catch reefwreak lol

i had a pistol hitch hike on some rock. i got annoyed with the sound after a while and since i didnt have a shrimp goby for him to make friends with and didnt plan on getting one, i took him out by dipping the rock he was hiding in in a bucket of freshwater. voila, no more pistol

Symbolic -characterized by or involving the use of symbols or symbolism, a gesture symbolic of repentance, acting as a symbol.
Most shrimp gobies can not dig burrows for themselves so the rely on the shrimp and the shrimp is blind as a bat so the gobies act as there eyes thus help them detect predators… there are few articles that go into more detail on the web its something I read up on b/c I had a pair (shrimp and mated pair of gobies)
