Pistol shrimp types in the Gulf....

Was diving today, and got 2 of the four types of pistols that I get when harvesting the live rock......one I call the golden pistol with the stripe, don't get many of them, but did get one today. The small one with the orange claw is the one that has a symbiotic relationship with sponges that grow on the rock, and seldom leave their spot behind them, but they make the same volume POP as the three other types I get.

The third is some type of common shrimp, but looks close to a pistol....for those needing an ID on pistols....

And no pistol shrimp were harmed in this infomercial LOL...

Thanks for posting this Richard.

I have a couple of those guys living in my rock sponges! I also have several red/orange bodied, with dark green claws, one significantly bigger than the other - any ID?

Comes in army green also...

I caught 2 in my rocks I just got yesterday! I did a hypersalinity dip to get them out but they are not harmed either just a little ticked off for about an hour.

I have one that looks almost identical to the orange one with blue legs and a stripe. Caught it on a reef in Fort Lauderdale. Shares a hole with my yellow watchman goby.
