I was planning on getting a YWG and pistol shrimp pair this weekend. I currently have a skunk cleaner,2 blacker ice paired clowns, and 3 green chromis.Any worries about the pistol shrimp??
I have a tiger pistol and yellow prawn goby, living with a pair of skunk cleaners and miscellaneous peaceful reef fish. I added the pistol and goby a month or so back. No problems so far.
So I went ahead and got the YWG and pistol...the pistol shrimp is digging gold mines...he dusted one of my corals pretty good and in a spot where I eventually want to put an anemone/torch....I'm thinking about catching him and returning or rehoming...am I jumping the gun...I've tried returning the sand to spots I don't want him in but he seems pretty stubborn ..
Which shrimp did you get?
I know from experience that tigers are very busy workers that can create a lot of gravel movement. But randalli shrimp are far less intrusive. I have 10 of those little diggers in my 40B and you see very little ground movement.
I have a tiger shrimp paired... yup... he's a busy little critter. I swear he turns over every grain of sand in my shallow, 24x24" sand bed about once a week. Low lying corals on the sand bed would be a bit of a problem.
I got a tiger pistol....only a couple spots where he seems pretty active..but I NEVER see him or the Goby...seems kind of a waste of habitat space not seeing either of them and cleaning up after him..
He's made quite a nice map of tunnels and hiding spots under my live rock...neither are really bothering anything...but not seeing either of them kinda makes me wanna go in a different direction..
I had a pistol with a Blood Red cleaner, and eventually lost the the Blood Red blaming the pistol. A little over a year later I caught a Gorilla crab tha has been in the tank for a least 3 to 4 years. I found him after it went on a rampage killing little hermits, and now think the crab was a more likely culprit to the loss of a cleaner and a Clown fish. It is definitely possible to keep both, but it is often a gamble.
