i bought a pistol shrimp with purple legs and an orangish body and thought it would pair up with my yellow watchman goby. well it didnt. can i buy another different species of pistol shrimp and put it in there, one that is more compatable with my goby or is that not a good idea? i was thinking either a tiger pistol or a randalls.

I am new to reefing so I could be wrong but your description sounds to me like a bullseye pistol shrimp. It is a pistol shrimp that does not share a symbiotic relationship with gobies. Very cool looking though. From what I understand the most likely shrimp to pair with a goby is a randalls pistol shrimp. Hope that helps.

In a 30 you would probably end up with only one pistol if you added another.

Ive had a YWG teamd with a tiger pistol before and they dominated the entire bottom of my 75.

Sometimes it can take time for the shrimp and fish to bond.

Is this the shrimp that has purply blue legs, a carmel colored body and a tan stripe down its back (lengthwise)? Not quite the bullseye but very similar. I think its a caribbean species. I have a pair of YWG paired with one of these in my 34g.

I would prescribe patience - wait a month or two or see if their behavior changes, then try another species perhaps?
