Placement of acan?

Where should I put my acan? I have a 180g tank 6'x2'x2', with dual 400w MH's 10" above the waterline. Currently the acan is ~18"down from the waterline, on a piece of LR. Where do they like to be/thrive?

What kind of acan is it?

Pretty much no matter what kind it is, with 400w mh's in a 24" deep tank, i'd say as close to the bottom as possible would be best. Thats a LOT of light in a pretty shallow tank and almost all of my acans like to be near the botom of my tank and that's with 150w mh's.

Hmm, well I'll move it, and see how it likes it. It's grown, not very rapidly, but not so slow as to not notice either.


sufunk, I've got the same skimmer and return, but my lights are the 400w (with 50/50 PC's in the same housing) and a closed loop barracuda pump pushing about 4000gph. Got any pics of your tank?

I just switched to the 250w mh's from 150's a few days ago.

Do you spot feed your acans? Mine look the exact same as yours; just wondering if you do feed them what you do feed 'em.

Yes, i try to spot feed them at least once a week.

I just use a big chunk of frozen cyclo and thaw it in a little tankwater until it is about as thick as ketchup. I then try to hit as many heads as i can with a little plastic syringe.
