placement of ecotech mp40 on a 90 gallon

Where's the best place to put a mp40? Im scoping out my setup while its on its way and would like to get some input. At this time I can only afford one. Maybe awhile before I can get another. If it helps I can post some pics of tank. Thanks

pics are always helpful. where is your overflow box located. mine in my 90 gallon is a little to the left from the middle tank so i placed my mp40 on the right side to push that water closer to the overflow box. also its about 3 - 4 inches from the top of the tank. works out great. im still saving up for a second mp40 but its not necessary.

Center middle works well too. MP40's can really do some nice wide currents and 1 will work for now. Why do you have it at the top? Is it kicking up your sand or something? If your just having it to to push more water to the overflow box, a $30 Koriala could of done that job just as well.

Is there another reason?

My overflow is part of the tank. it's in the back corner of the left side of tank. here are some pics

im thinking on right side but just worried about blasting that frogspan there on right. let me know what you all think. and also what settings you use. Thanks

lagoon mode provides nice random flow, reef crest does also but spends imo to much time below 50% power. If you have a new MP-40es then you have more options that i am not familiar with.

Um gonna try a few different modes n lagoon was one if em. I wanted to see nutrient mode n test it out but don't want to blast coral or knock rocks over from too much flow. I currently have a hydro koroila wave maker. I have it set to 100%. Has severed me good. All the reviews if these vortech pumps has me wanting to try one for myself.

Im also concerned that the wave motion my make my sump level vary n make my ato turn on n off. I've read an article of this situation. Just hope its not common.

nutrient export mode wasn't on the pre ES models so i have no experience with it but i have read that many people like it.

I've seen that too. That's why I wanted to see how it worked n if it would with my rock work and coral placement. Thank you for the info. It will go to good use.

reason why i placed it up top is because thats the standard set up in the instructions. also a Koriala would never do what the mp40 can. i just figured since the water on the right of the tank isnt as close to the over flow compared to the left side thats why i wanted to push that water over. you will see when you set yours up and realize this is why i didnt buy a koriala or any other kind of pump. these ecotech pumps are the best.

I placed mine up top as well. About 4 inches from top. I like the nutrient mode but also like lagoon mode when the lights are out. Wish it could be programed to to that. But its a great pump!!!!

Thinking of a mp10 for the other side. I think another mp40 will be over kill. My return pump nozzle us pointing towards the side of the mp40. Should I redirect its flow path to somewhere else??

Your on the right track, MP on the right 4-5" down. I have mine like that with koriala on the other side. 2nd MP would allow more flow and you could turn the flow down a bit. I'm still saving for my 2nd one.

I have an 82 gallon in the planning stages...I have been deciding between 2 mp10's or 1 mp40, I know the mp40 is more powerful but I also think the randomness of the 2 mp10's would make this a better option. My tank will be placed in a large cubby hole with the front and right side showing. I am getting ready to drill the back for my overflow but really want to put it on the left side so its doesnt stick out as much. For aesthetics I dont want to have a powerhead on the right side glass either, this is where the 2 come in, one on the left side and on the back glass...Would this be better than just one 40 on the left side??
