setup is 75 gallon AGA, 2 250watt 14khamilton bulbs, hamilton reflectors, 2 96watt 03 actinic pc all run off 2 elec hamilton ballats, 1100gph return pump 2 seio 820's and a large DIY skimmer :). I know that each species is more than likely different I would ust like some kind of overview as to which like more light/less light, sand or lr rubble things of that nature. Thanks in advance for any help that you are able to provide me :)

I would say that this would be the order of clams that need the most light to the ones that need the lowest; 1) Maxima, 2) Crocea, 3) Deresa, 4) Squamosa, 5) Gigas. You should have sufficient enough lighting for any of these species, but Maxima's prefer to be attached to the rock work. You might want to put it up higher in the tank since the Hamilton 14K's have fairly low PAR. The other species people typically place in the sand bed. Clams also prefer a nice slow flow and do not like to get blasted with flow.

ok sounds great thanks, wit the ballast that I have what other bulbs do you think might be better for the clams and overall health of the corals, in your own opinion.

There is nothing wrong with the Hamilton's, but they are kind of weak when it comes to intensity. Clams and corals tend to respond better to 10K bulbs. Not that you can't use higher kelvin bulbs, but SPS seem to get better coloration under the higher intensity. I think that the Aqualine Bushke 10K bulb is a good one to use. It's not as intense as say a XM 10K, but has good intensity and good color. It tends to burn ice white with a hint of blue. With your actinics it would give good color. Everyone's preferences are different though. I'm guessing you are running Singe Ended MH?

yes im running SE halides but I have no plans on keeping SPS, only LPS, rics and what not, and a giant toadstool leather :) thats why I was wondering if the clam would fair well under my lighting, im not really a big fan of many or any SPS corals
