2 blue legged hermits

10ish snails

1 conch

1-2 Pom Pom crabs

1 porcelain crab

1 spider decorator crab

1 fire shrimp

1 pistol shrimp

2 clown fish

1 Banggai cardinalfish/royal gramma/ purple fire fish

1 yellow watchman goby

Would this work? Or is there anything else you would do?

It’s not bad. I’m not sure how the decorator will do with other smaller crabs and your hermits may kill some of the snails.

Only other thing is making sure you have enough filtration.

You would need to feed this tank phyto and pods for the filter feeders regularly. The conch will need algae sheets or pellets until the tank grows some algae. There are many kinds of snails. 10 being fine depends on what you get. I would get 20 and have 3-4 kinds.

Your 20-gallon reef tank stocking plan looks exciting, but there are a few things to consider regarding compatibility, bioload, and tank dynamics.

Adjustments for a Stable Setup:

  1. Drop the Spider Decorator Crab – Too risky for corals and small inverts.
  2. Pick one mid-water fish – Either Royal Gramma OR Firefish OR Banggai Cardinal, but not all three.
  3. Keep an eye on the pistol shrimp-fire shrimp dynamic – Ensure they have separate territories.
  4. Monitor hermits with snails – Blue legs sometimes kill snails for shells.
With these tweaks, you’ll have a balanced and low-maintenance 20-gallon reef tank!
