plankton

ok so i got my first crocea a few days ago. ive since picked up some dt's and its going super fast. and its pricey. i know you can culture your own but i dont really have the room for another setup in my apartment. so my question is what alternatives do i have. by the way he's about 3-4 inches long if that helps

If it is that big, then I would not worry about trying to feed it expensive phytoplankton all the time -- probably somewhere around 90% of its energy is derived from photosynthesis as its mantle is now large enough to support it.

The only reason small clams (typically less than 2 - 2.5 inches) need to filter feed is because there mantle is too small (little surface area) and may not harbor all of the dinoflagellates needed for photosynthesis.

Dosing phyto isn't bad -- but you don't need to do it every day. I dose maybe 2/week and have featherdusters, filterfeeders, etc. galore.

There are a lot of threads around here about growing your own..

were can i get plankton to start culturing it. can i just use the dt's i have? i saw a site for it but it was like 35 bucks to ship it cause it had to be next day shipping.
