I've gotten the green light from the better half to get back into the hobby after about 1-1/2 years out, and jump back in with two feet and a 'big' tank.
About a decade ago I built from scratch a ~40g 24x24x16" "remnant pieces tank" leftover from a 80x24x16" tank I had cut from sheets but never put together... with the 80x24x16 acrylic parts now looking like great sump material (the height is what killed us last time around- too short) I've landed on wanting a DT that's 80Lx30Wx24T, about 225g. I don't want to do center bracing and have had a heck of a time finding anything other than the "normal" calculators online that don't have any details about the euro-brace. I intend to make the euro-brace seamless from a single piece by cutting the inside out like a donut.
I'm assuming ~3/4" thickness on walls is sufficient (some calculators call that as almost too thin- though I'm not sure this euro-brace situation is properly accounted for in the calculator) and wonder if I need to do the same thickness for the top/bottom (or can I do 1/2"?). How wide should the euro-brace profile be? 3"? 4"? Does it matter what the radius of the inside corners are? Would 1" be fine?
Anybody have suggestions on direction here? Anybody have an acrylic euro-braced tank calculator?
