Planning a new tank

OK, here goes. After having gotten a free 150 with stand, I was going to sell the 55 fw and do a cichlid setup with the 150. Really I was, until a few days ago when my wife started us thinking on redoing the living room and we saw that the 150 would simply be too overbearing with the fireplace we plan. Seemed all of a sudden like he perfect opportunity to do the 92 corner SPS tank I have never done. (I have a 54 corner in the family room with lps and softies). So, I just sold the 150 and am close to selling the 55 fw and after most of the renovation gets done in the LR, I will get the 92 corner with a canopy this time. So planning........

1) Please help me decide against the caribbean live rock that was sooo cool in my 54 gallon"s first incarnation. It was chock full of life and only one mantis.
2) I havent yet used a sump so this tank will have an overflow. Anybody (Lonnie?) have any recommendations on what will fit under the 92 in the cabinet?
3) I plan on 150-200 lbs of rock and an in-sump skimmer. Should I supplement with a canister?
4) What skimmer?
5) Lighting - T5 or MH? I love the shimmer of MH. Should I combine PC with MH to get a dusk to dawn thing going?
6) How many watts?

I will have at least 1 to 2 months to really get started, so I should be ready for frags in 4-5 months. Feel free to save me some breakoff pieces :).
Did I miss anything?

For a 92 corner can I suggest 400 watt 10,000k MH with T-5 or Power Compact actinic03 combination. You are going to have to most likely build a custom canopy with built in fans to keep things cool.
For live rock, Fiji is the best for the size and price, as far as skimmers, a good in sump model would be the best choice. I build my own skimmers so you are going to have to ask somebody who uses other models. You can use a canister filter to hold your carbon, and phosphate media.
Hope these suggestions help out.

Thanks Cap, You think two double ended 175's and 4 32 watt PC actinics would do it? Some say I wouldn't need the canister - any other opinions? I got a lead on a custom canopy at - oh darn - what is the name of that store that burnt down and reopened on the other side of the Sunrise Hwy? Anybody on here want to build one? Fiji probably will be the way to go.

store that burnt down and reopened on the other side of the Sunrise Hwy - BTJ's jungle. Recommend an ASM G3 with recirc and feeder mods.

Yes the double 175's with the 4-32 pc actinic will do fine. I would only use the canister to hold all the chemical media. The canister keeps all the media neat and together and it concentrates the water flow directly through the media.
You can stop at Fishy Inc.Fishy Inc website
Les may have a canopy or know somebody who has one.

Hi Neurtech...I have a 92 gal corner fish only tank...I would like to turn over to a reef tank, but need lots of help. Please forward any information that you may get to me..I would be ever so grateful.

I just set up a 92 corner for a client and I like to use as large a sump as I can fit into the stand. the sump I used is from a local manufacturer here in Tampa. It's 24" long by 11.5" wide by 16" high. It's as big as you can get without going to some odd shaped custom unit. I also had to install the bulkhead on the long side which will put the external pump 90* to the sump. A large sump will give you the room you need on the pump side for a large skimmer and whatever else will find it's way into it.

I have a 92g corner tank, and am using a standard 20g high tank as the sump. It's pretty crowded in there, but seems to be doing the job. I have a euro-reef skimmer in the sump; the main return pump; a water pump to feed the chiller; another water pump to feed my two phosban reactors on one side of a tee, and the other side to my calcium reactor; as well as a maxi-jet pump to feed by HOB refugium. I think there's a heater in the sump too ;) God knows what else is in the sump... it's scary to have to dig in there sometimes ;)

Wow Lonnie, thats a busy sump. That's sumptin else. Sorry
Which calcium reactor are you using? Which euro-reef?Are you happy with the size skimmer? Do you light the refugium opposite the tank lighting schedule? Any chance you would have an under tank pic or two? Can you tell that I am obsessing about planning this tank? :)
