With my new tank coming soon I have to get on the ball and figure out the plumbing. I have an external overflow with 2 1.5" drains. Im not using an over the top return and instead I want to use 8 returns across the bottom to simulate a spraybar.
The return pump I have is a barracuda but I wanted to make sure all the plumbing was sized to get the maximum efficency from the pump. I was looking around an found a manifold at marinedepot which is one 1.5" intake and eight 3/4" outputs, 6 across the back and one on each side (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=DP2915 ). I dont have that far to push water up so I guessing about 3' of 1.5" at the most. Then it would split off into the 8 3/4" runs each ending on a 3/4" loc line Y inside the tank. Anyone with plumbing knowledge please let me know if this would work with the barracuda.
Inside the tank I am planning on using 1 or 2 vortec powerheads depending on the flow since its going to be a mixed reef
Under the tank will be a large MRC reef sump w/ fuge I will use one 1.5" to drain into the skimmer section. The other will flow throught a 55 gal tank for waterchanges. That line will also T off to the refuge for slow flow into the return area.
Overall I am figuring around something like 375 gal total volume with a 55 gal topoff.
3 MH fixtures on Lumanarc III's 250 400 250 and 4 48" t-5 actinic. 8 LED moonlights for night viewing. The tank is in wall between my study and garage so everything will be located outside but I am going to build a small fish room around everything so I can keep things cool and insulated from the heat of the garage.
Anyways that is the plan for now. Hopefully the tank will be done soon so I can pick it up and get started. About to get the steel so I can start building the stand. Pics to come soon.
