If there is one thing I have learned both through this site and experience is planning can make a significant difference in success. Followed immediately by patience and well thought out decisions. Within a year I plan to establish a large setup. I am starting now determining what will be needed. Does anyone have- or know of a developed checklist/work list of decisions that need to be made and in some sequence?

Thanks if you have one or know of a resource. I plan to create one as I go to share here.

By the way you can learn a ton about systems do's and dont's by reading the large thread on silent and fail safe overflows. Lots buried in those pages well beyond overflows thanks to BeanAnimal and others like UncleofSix but you will spend time to find the pearls.

My system has slowly evolved due to my college student budget. But I'm extremely happy with what I have now. I would recommend buying equipment one step above the size you plan on so if you want to tie things in later your good. Like my skimmer on my 600g system is rated for 1200g. And it gets a work out now because I feed very heavy. Also give your self room to expand. The best laid out systems often change. And I've helped alot of people rearrange they're systems for efficiency and its a pain.

Biggest thing is go slow and take your time. Too many people even with 10k$ systems is they go too fast. Volume doesn't save you when you don't give it time
