Planning large tank (265 gallon) need help with flow.

Hi everybody, I am currently in the planning stages for what to my a system between 400-500 gallons. with a main display of 265 or 300 gallons (depends what would fit through the stairs....

Option one would be a 265 gallon, 84X24X30 tank, the tank comes with two corner overflows... i think they are marineland...

the other option is the 300 DD which is 300x36x24 i think.

The question is what type of flow would be good for keeping any corals? should i stick with the two returns? planning to hook them up to a strong return pump from the sump (adjacent room).

Or maybe should i add a closed loop? can I with these marineland tanks? or just stick with TUnzee streams? I kind of shooting for a clean look, don't want anything sticking on the glasses.

If that were my setup I would run the stock corner overflows and toss in 2-4 WP60s (newest jebao wavemakers) and call it a day.

any recommendtion on where to put them? can i put them all on the back wall? these pumps look crazy... and only 95$ each... super cool

Tunze streams stick to the glass, just on the inside If you don't mind drilling the holes, a closed loop may look the cleanest once it's all said an done. But it will be the most complex with the greatest chance of leaks (compared to power heads). Either types of flow are adjustable. With closed loops you will need to adjust the heads, which may be difficult if they are built into the rock work (but nice and discreet). Power heads are very adjustable but they are fairly noticeable in a tank. Vortechs have a half in half out approach, but that may no suit your "clean" look if you're meaning on the outside glass.

I think you have more options for flow pattern (reef, crest, lagoon, etc) going with power heads, and can augment your flow to the growing tanks needs. That's what I am going with. My return pump will be controlled as well, working in patterns on its own.

Both terrific tank options. I was considering those two as well and ended up going with the 7 footer because a I do like the extra length and could not really fit the 36 inch depth. Initially I am going to run a closed loop and two Vortech 40s. May utimately not be enough, so am thinking about trying one of the new jebao pumps.

Their is a super high thread on here about the smaller jebao wp40 pumps if you want more info. I am running two WP40'S on my 210gal and love them!

Yea, i am a little worried about drilling the bottom of the tank... not sure if it would be tempared or not.. i assume it is.... After seeing what these pumps are capable of on youtube it seems like a pretty nice option.

Just need to figure out a way to make them less on an eye sore.... planning to have the tank viewble from the front and right pane.

Would putting these pumps behind the rock work would be an issue?

They produce a wide flow so it shouldn't be a problem. I have mine semi hidden behind rocks now.

Assuming you are buying either of the Marineland tanks, why would you need to drill the bottom. They both come with dual back corner overflows (unless you get the non reef ready version, but why would you do that) so if you want holes for a closed loop then put them in the back along the top.

Thank you guys for all the comments, I am eyeing the wp-60 at the moment, need to do more research regarding controlling their flow with a controller.

I will most likely start with 2 and see where it goes.
