planning on diy wavebox...but.

Instead of using a maximod (said to be unreliable) I was looking to use a seio or tunze nanostream. would either of these pumps be able to handle the constant on off on off motion?

I know It of course would be the best to just buy the tunze wavebox, but I can't afford that! I dont think too many of us could come to buy a 500 black box. LOL.

im sure they would! try contacting Tunze just to be 100% certain! if not i hear maxijets work really well!! what sort of box are u gonna mount them in?

I'm going to mount them in an acrylic box that I will make. I'm looking for someone on here that built one before because I noticed on all the custom made ones that theres is a lot of air in the box...aka the box could be made smaller...but how much smaller is the question.

could anybody answer that? I'm not looking for wavebreaking records...just a nice 1" wave that will make all the corals sway to and fro.

Both the seio's and the tunze nanostream's are not designed to handle the constant on/off.

are there any pump that is other than the actual tunze stream? if I'm going to buy that pump I might as well just buy the whole wavebox...I guess since maxi mod is what everyone else is using thats my best bet.

I've been thinking about doing this myself. There is a guy in another forum who fabricated one using plexiglas scraps and a Tunze 6000. He also had to make his own controller that plugs into the 6000's electronic box. Basically the idea is to be able to "fine tune" the pulse frequency. The Tunze Singlecontroller can only do 30% to 100% in 8 seconds so this will not work. You need something that can stop and go in about a fraction of a second - continuously.

Do a search on Google for DIY Wavebox and you will see that thread. The tricky part is the schematic and soldering components on a PCB, so if you don't know much about electronics, I suggest you take it to a buddy.

I've seen a DIY wavebox using a Maxi Mod. Short answer: It did NOT work. According to the guy, the pump failed after about 2 weeks of non-stop on and off every second. However, it was very effective when it was working.

I'm going to buy that pump I might as well just buy the whole wavebox...

You also need to make a custom controller....

I believe the tunze wavebox uses the bigger 6200 pump. I have a wavebox and it well worth the money!!
