After gaining some confidence building a wet-dry/sump/refuriem for my 105 gallon Cichlid tank, I have convinced the better half into letting me start a sw tank. I am going to build this myself from acrylic, and I'm going to attempt DIY rock and anything else that may keep costs down.
I want a show tank viewable from 3 sides, and I like the look of aquariums with more depth to them than height, but I don't know of any drawbacks one design has over another.
So, shooting for around 200 gallons, demensions that seem nice to me are:
36" long * 36" wide * 36" deep (not too sure how a big box will look)
48" long * 48" wide * 20" deep (I really like this setup)
I'm thinking 1/2" acrylic would be ok for the 48" tank, but the 36" tank will require going up to 3/4". It would also be interesting to see what a 36x36x36 tank would look like with an overflow setup in the middle of the tank so it's viewable from all four sides.
Is there any other suggestions I could chew on while planning this out as far as tank demension?
Thanks!
