Plans for a 180 In Wall Build

So I was able to get a great deal on a barely used 180gal set up and I just bought a house. I plan on putting the 180 in the basement and make it a in wall tank.

I am still in the planning/researching phase. What I want to do so far is rockwork, like in Tiggsy thread. I also want to put a OM 4way with a dart pump.

Right now I am working third shift so my free time is taken up by sleeping and researching. So this will probably be a slow build until I can get more time. That and my fiance keeps wanting me to do stuff for her around the house.

Any advice, tips, opinions you guys can give on equipment, livestock, etc, I am all ears and want to hear it.

This is where I plan on building the wall and have a fishroom behind. The Fishroom will be approx. 6'x10'. There will be a pocket door on the left to access the fishroom.

Yes the paneling is going to go.

I've been able to pick up some of the equipment. I was going to pick up more this weekend, but the storm stopped that.

Here is the MRC Skimmer

And the Blueline pump for the Skimmer. Do you guys think these are ok Pumps?

Here are the ballasts for the MH fixture. It is a aquamedic. It has 3 x 250 and 2 x 150. At this time, I do not know what kind of bulbs are in it. I wasn't able to pick up the fixture bc of the storm.

I'll post more picks as I pick up the rest of the setup and as progress is made on the construction part.

thanks

Yes and NO on the pump. As far as I know they are very good pumps. The problem I see, and I don't know what advantages there may be over say a big Eheim pump that may do the same thing, is the energy consumption. I'm not sure which one you have but it's rated either 180W or 290W:eek1: or about $10.00/mo with AEP rates for the 290W pump. Add that to a similar return and a similar closed loop, all those lights, etc... and the monthly charge starts to add up... I've been trying to switch to more efficient equipment to help lower the monthly bill for example the pumps in my 120 all total maybe 150W now and I have a lot of flow.

I just went down and looked at it. It is a Blueline 55 and it is 180w. I still have another that I have to pick up from him which is the return pump from the sump. Which Ehiem pump would you suggest. I am all about trying to save on energy.

Thanks for your help.

See what I mean??? Difficult!:D

As for the pump it looks like you need something fairly big to run that skimmer, I don't know if you could get by with a 1262 or not, they're rated a couple hundred gph below the pumps MRC recommends, it also consumes 100W less power if it would work. I'd shop around to see if there are options and maybe even call MRC for advice.
You might check out the quick disconnect option you can add on to your skimmer to ease cleaning.

You'll have to wait a little longer. I don't get off of our overnight remodel at work for a couple more weeks. :)

Thanks for your help. I'll look into your suggestions.

Hey I was able to take down the workout poster that the previous owner left up. Hope that is enough progress for you at the time being :D

I'll save it for you, if you want it. You can have it for free, no shipping either.

I am hoping to get the tank next weekend. We'll see if that works out.

I run a pan World ps200. I love it. Sure it cost more to operate, but you will never get the skimmer to work near as well with an Eheim. I am not against the pumps, they are great pumps and worth the money, but not for this application. I am planning on running our next beckett skimmer with a ps250.

Getting started on a 180 in the wall build ourselves. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info. Keep us posted on how your build goes. I still haven't been able to get up to Toledo to pick up the tank. I have to work this weekend so I am hoping to get it next weekend. I'll keep you guys posted.
