I was thinking about turning my planted cichlid tank into a planted salt water tank. I had a grassbed tank a few years back and for the life of me, I cant remember if I skimmered it. Is it needed in a planted tank?I know skimmer pulls a lot of the nutrients out of the water. Nutrients are things obviously plants need.
I was going to put a few rock out croppings, maybe with some colorful Zoos on them, and then some open sand and then the grass itself. I want some long bladed grasses and oddball macros. Keeping away from calurpa but might add some sargassum when I get some at the beach, its legal here.
My current LED system wasnt meant for growing plants but it does great for Amazon swords in a 120. Ill probably upgrade it to a Chinese reef system. I am not looking to throw a lot of money at this tank. My main expenses at this point will be some pumps to move water, I forget what I was looking at.
I dont know what I am looking at for livestock, mostly inverts, maybe a few bright fish to swim around in the grass. Ill worry about that later. Hehe
