Plate coral done?

My peppermint shrimp ripped my plate coral apart exposing its skeleton. There is a small piece(maybe a quarter of its original size) of its mouth left. Is there any chance it will be ok and regenerate? If so anything in particular i need to do for it?

There is a chance. A iodine based (lugols) dip may be helpful. Otherwise, lower flow area and feed it if it will accept food. If it does die, don;t take it out of the tank and place the skeleton in a lower lit area of the tank. Watch it for while to see if it sprouts babies. It is not that uncommon for this to happen and can sometimes take months to start sprouting.

I've lost a few of these from damage of this nature. Even if it is lost there is a chance the skeleton will produce offspring

I would for sure give it some TLC. put it in a shallow piece of tupperware in the tank then 1 time per day take the tupperware out of the tank(with the plate still in it) and feed it cylcopese, mysis, and other small meaty foods. The reason to leave it in the container in the tank is so that when you go to remove it, you dont cause it to close up and not feed.

It needs to be hand fed, without water currents or fish or peppermints stealing its food before it can eat. do that every day for a week or two, then every couple of days for another week and you have a decent shot of nursing it back to health.

Awesome thanks everyone. mc-cro: I placed the plate in a shallow glass bowl similar to a tupperware storing container. I placed it in the darkest and lowest flow corner of the tank which ironically was pretty close to where it used to like being before being eaten alive. It actually showed good response today during feeding. I squirted a few brine on him and it took him about 20 minutes but he at about 3 bringe shrimp so that was very encouraging!
