I recently got this half dead plate coral for free from my lfs. The tentacles have started to show up and it is looking much better now. My question is should I try to cut the dead coral skeleton away from the flesh so it can grow a new skeleton?
IME once the central mouth has died they don't survive. Usually it starts with just the pizza slice thing. That one looks in much worse shape. I wouldn't cut at anything. Just leave it and maybe it will get better.
I would just leave it. New plate coral babies will most likely pop out from the dead skeleton. If you want you could cut it. Up to you. Either way I would leave the dead skeleton in the tank cause plate corals are known for sprouting baby plates from the dead skeletons.
It has been in my tank for about 2-3 mouths. Always about the same size but now looking much better and tentacles are out. I will leave the skeleton intact. Thanks for the help.
