Playing around w/ ACAD

If your interested in 3D Mechanical Design, Autodesk released the "Inventor" program about 5 years ago and is up to release 11 now. Its in the same market as Solidworks and Pro Engineer.
Basicly, if you havn't used any of these you build parts that are put into subassemblies and then major assemblies......change a dim on the part and the part, sub assy, major assy, and ALL the drawings are updated automaticly. Very powerful program!!
I have been using it everyday for 2 years at work and love it, IMO more user friendly than SolidWorks.

If your not familliar with it, you should check it out here and watch the demonstation:

Most industries are getting thier own specialized 3D programs: Mechanical=Inventor, Construction=Revit, noticing your Landscape I would imagine you will stay using 2D for a time to come that you guys have LDT......but who knows, we all live in a 3D world and soon I expect our designs all to be 3D and it looks like its comming to that.
