well, the angel has been out for a couple of weeks and the 1st acan looks much better, but this one still looks the same. Now what do I do?
 
6 t-5's. Its been on the bottom, I just moved it to the shade. Do you think I should bring it into more or less light?
 
its really wierd. 1 time I moved it to less flow on the bottom and it started to look great again. I went on vacation and when I got back it was all stressed out, then I saw the angel picking. So I took him out and weeks later its still stressed, maybe I should put it in more flow and light now?
 
Feed you shrimp first then your acans. I used to have the same problem. I even had to fight them off with a pipet to let my acans eat.
 
I lost all of my micros and chalices while gone over the Holiday. Saved an acan and oullophylia, but had to dip them several times to get them to come back (TMPCC). Followed JenDubs advice and feel confident that I can save my LPS if they recede again. Like the original post, all of my SPS and other corals were and are doing great, and water parameters were fine except a brief Kh drop while I was out of town. Convinced my problem was bacterial, and I think your angel was only half of your problem. Hope this helps!

Been having the same problem with my acans and chalices. Will try dipping. My sps and other corals are fine.

I used seachem reef dip, but any good iodine based dip should work. Tropic marin, etc. You should cut off any part that is already dead or dieing. I painted the dip on the affected area then dipped it. You lose part of your coral but it's better than loosing the whole thing. Good luck.
 
Seachem coral dip or Tropic Marin Pro Coral Care Dip should do well. I use a capful of the Seachem with a half gallon of tank water (the double dose), 5-10 minutes circulating the water and watching for stress. Dip every other day if need be, corals often look better immediately after dipping. I recc dipping all of your LPS to be on the safe side. If you get any polyp extension, just feed the crap out of it...2X per day some big, oily mysis shrimp.

Also, if you don't have any place to shelter the coral from the fish, you can make a little floating cage for it out of eggcrate plastic, or something similar.... just to keep the fish, shrimp, or hermit crabs from stealing the food.

Craft stores such as Micheal's sell plastic mesh in different sizes (for some kind of weaving project?), that can easily be cut and zip tied together to make a protected cage. You can then zip tie styrofoam to it if you want it to float.

I do get polyps coming out at night
 
URG! I really love my acans and I want to buy more but I just can't when things are acting like this. Damn, I don't know what else I should do.
 
try shading it a bit. i had GSP mid way up under halides. it was closed for 2 weeks. thought it was dead. i was gonna toss it. i then moved it to the bottom, and in 30 mins it opened.

i would say, if its opening at night, your lighting may be too intense
 
well, I tried that but I only left it there for 2 days, I guess I will try it longer. I need to get some dip too....
 
ok here are some more questions to help. firstly, what is your SG? do u use a hydrometer or refractometer (dont lie)

second, what is the temp

third, what type of flow

fourth, any softies that may be leaching toxins
run carbon to see if that helps

5th is anything nipping at it (crab, shrimp fish etc)

sixth when was it fragged?
