Hey all,
I posted about this on here a month or so ago. At the time, my hippo tang had a minor case of HLLE and one or two, large (at least three times bigger than cryptocaryon irritans) pinkish-white bumps that looked slightly inflamed around the base on his skin. Not at all the "salted" appearance of ich. Think more like a pimple or mosquito bite. Since adding more vitamins to his diet, the HLLE has receded quickly, but there are still three bumps on his skin. One is near the top of each side of his mouth and they other is 2/3 of the way back on his body.
I initially thought it was just some strange, larger varient of cryptocaryon irritans, but it didn't make sense because I quarantine everything "wet" added to my tank for 6 weeks (hypo on all fish).
Still, I put him under hyposalinity just to be safe. I have been running at hypo for a little over 4 weeks now (1.009 -- refractometer calibrated with pinpoint 53.0 mS solution). Still, the bumps randomly appear and then disappear a week or two later.
Any ideas as to what this could be? Can flukes survive hypo? Initially, I tried doing formalin dips for 4 days in a row and saw no improvements. I ran out of formalin and have not tried since.
