Does anyone know what kind of tang this is? The shop label said "Purple Tang", but it obviously is not anywhere close to looking like a Zebrasoma species.

I am thinking that it is a Lieutenant Tang (A. tennenti) or the Lavender (A. nigrofuscus), but I really have no clue.

It is super healthy, been in QT for 3 weeks now with no problems and eats like a pig. I just don't know what type of tang it is.

It's so small that ID will be kinda difficult with that picture.

It's definitely an Acanthurus tang and not a Zebrasoma.

I'm leaning towards A.tennetti like you suspect or A.maculeps.

Can you take more pictures of it?

I would have said A. maucileps, but those juveniles would be stripped and this tang is not

Not maucileps. I think either lavender or one of the larger acanthurus tangs. The lines on the dorsal fin make me think monroviae or one of the other larger ones. Name is escaping me right now, going to drive me crazy...

I know that this thread is a bit older, but I'm thinking that you have a juvie Acanthurus leucocheilus. (Pale lipped surgeon). Fairly uncommon in the hobby, and a very nice looking tang as an adult IMO. Nice find!
