Here is the problem about two weeks ago i bought 3 new fish, 2 b cardnials and the yasha gobie. (No quartine) After a week the cardnials passed without any signs of anything except, once one had string white poo and then stopped eating 2 days before dying. The yasha is o.k.
still.. But after they did one week later my gramma stopped eating and breathing heavy hiding all day.. 2 days passed still breathing heavy no eating but no other signs of anything so i thought maybe its his gills (fluke) so i treated tank with prazipro.. its been 2 full days since treatment and he is coming out now and starting to eat again but im still worried cause his breathing is still labored..
If he wasnt breathing heavy i would not know he was sick
Cause of no other symptoms. All tank mates seem fine..
Any advice will help... i was planning on water change tomorrow and dosing prazipro again on day 3..

I recently went through what I think is brooklynella. It seems that the fish start breathing heavy because the parasites get to the guills first. In later stages the white velvet appears on the skin.

All water parameters are fine..So i did two doses of prazipro and the grammas breathing is much better he started eating and being normal again.. planning on doing 1 1 more dose of prazi after waterchange.. but my question now is can healthy fish keep flukes at bay or should i remove all go fallow n quarintine.. all fish seem o.k. or would change stress em to much

Im 90percent sure its flukes. Would you guys do a dip to garuntee or just quarantine or just leave em if they are fine now?

I did a freshwater dip in a bucket lined with a clear plastic bag. I let the fish stay in there for about 10 minutes and then returned him to QT. Then under bright lighting I held the plastic bag up and I could see flukes swimming and sinking to the bottom. There had to be about 10 of them. They were almost clear in color so you may want to use a magnifying glass. There is always a quick noticeable improvement once the flukes drop off. You still have to treat again a week later to kill any fluke eggs that hatched on the fish. From what I heard the flukes lay eggs in the fishes mouth and under gill plates.
