Gary, I'm still trying to figure out how to ID nems. Without seeing the base it looks so close to a crispa (it just didn't seem to have the purple tips.), is the foot the key in this one? I noticed the fading orange on the foot, and I've read this is typical of M. doreensis. Not trying to hijack a thread, I'm curious also That's a good pic of the foot and underside of the nem, good shot Leilani!

The orange foot is one thing (still variable on H. crispa, though), but the verrucae tell the real story. Note how they are carefully aligned and how there are fewer and smaller than H. crispa.

size is a tricky thing isn't it! Now I'm going to have to look at the verrucae on mine to compare!
Okay, got mine to cooperate, but it's definately hard to compare the real thing to a photo. I can't tell the difference in size of the verrucae without some sort of reference, but I did notice that the bumps on mine seem to be more random, almost wavy, and they extend further down the foot. One of these days I'll have to post a pic of mine to make sure I have what I think I have

You can see how they are more randomly placed and more pronounced. They are also MUCH more adhesive in H. crispa

I can see the difference now, thank you! Maybe one day, I'll be able to tell the difference with out a side by side

From the top view, I can tell it's not a crispa, the tentacles aren't evenly placed on the disk, they're concentrated around the edges. On the crispa they're pretty evenly spaced - right?

With a nem id, you should be able to know what to do to get this guy healthy, good luck. I have a sebae and it's very neat to watch with the clowns!!

update! my anemone has buried itself into the sand and is happy and healthy, getting much more brown from zooanthellae regrowth and loves shrimp. spits out formula one and silversides though. only seems to like shrimp. but it looks great!

Thanks! I am so happy that it is adapting, I was worried at first, I have been feeding every other day, do you think that is too much? I feed just one piece every other day.

I think you're fine. Personally I'd leave 2 days between feedings and increase the amounts of food.
