Please Help me identify this...

If sponges are growing excessively its a sign of excess nutrients.

I have the sponge first mentioned in this thread. Its grown a little over the past 2 years and also produced those nodules,I think that might be what their called. But I cant remember.

They might do that to take up stuff leached from other species.I had a blue sponge that appeared to get something from a colony of GSP.When I moved the gsp away from the sponge that nodule or feeding tube died off.

its possible the nutrients are high, the tanks nitrate are at 2.5 Dan had been working hard to knock down the phosphates with GFO. I believe the dryrock in the 240 is leaching a lot of PO4. that and the massive bioload :)

I'd been interested in moving to a more suitably sized skimmer like an XP5000 External to see if we can export more organics prior to to breakdown to phosphate.

This system is possibly a good candidate for carbon dosing. watching TMZs thread :)

Yet another rock!

Yet another rock!

Wow so what I thought was a fairly small and contained area turned out to be about 5 rocks that were all touching in some fashion. It appears that the Hydrogen peroxide dip worked but time will tell if it comes back. I will keep this post updated.

So after much battling I finally decided to pull the affected live rock one last time and stick it out in the cold and snow for 48hrs or so and then took a blow torch to the sponge after. Nothin should be able to live through those extremes and so far that is the case :)

lol, I did the ame thing to my aptasia infested rock from the old setup - worked like a charm, then again I did 30 days :)
