Dimensions...36Lx18Wx30tall

I'm pretty sure these are the dimensions...it is a 70g and will be reef tank, but still open to suggestions on marginally reef safe fish.

What would you put in there as a centerpiece fish, and what other fishes?

This one is sort of a problem because of the length of the tank...suggestions on a centerpiece fish??

TIA

yellow tang grows far too large for a 70 gallon. get some pygmy angels or clownfish

I second this! A Flame Angel is a beautiful fish

You might take a look at some of the blennies and flasher wrasses: personality, and color. 3 blue chromis [a good number for them] for motion. Maybe a jawfish.

You have a choice with a midsize aquarium: a fish visible clear across the room, or motion visible across the room. Too big a fish will just hang in the water and stare out. The midsized fishes will move and politic among themselves, and draw people in close to watch a much more complicated community. [A little bias here! ;) ]

3 flasher/fairy wrasses, maybe 1 anthias, dwarf angel, and a blenny or goby

Thanks for all the replies...this tank is actually a friend of mine's and we have been brainstorming what he should put into it since the dimensions are not conducive to keeping large fish.
