Hi everyone we just went out and bought our first fish(woohoo) a Yellow watchman goby now I've read on here that people feed their fish anywhere from twice daily to every other day so I was feeding once a day and I just read on liveaquaria.com that yellow watchmen gobies should be fed twice daily. What should I do, if anyone with watchman gobie experience could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

I am of the belief that smaller more frequent feedings are healthier for the fish. The thing you do not want is uneaten food left in the tank it will wreak havoc on the water chemistry. I feed my discus 4 times a day, but they are very small feedings. If you feed every other day then the fish are starving by the time they eat and they do not absorb the nutrients as well.

This is just what have found works for me, I am not an expert nor do I claim to be. I am just a fish fanatic, and this is what works for me. The main thing is keeping uneaten food out of the water coulomb.

Hope this helps,

John

John's recommendation is very similiar to Bruce's (CaptiveReefSystems') recommendation.

In the wild, some reef fish graze all day long-algae eaters, and butterflys and angels that eat sponge and polyps. Many other fish only eat in the evening or if something gets attacked and then there's a frenzy.

All great advice :)

You lucked out this time, though ;) Sooo important to have a plan of attack before you set out to your LFS, give yourself a few options of possible fish to house in your system after your assured through your research that you are capable of caring for them. Quite a few fish are still in the trade at almost every LFS in Sacramento that shouldnt be. This is because they are obligate feeders, meaning they depend on a certain food or partnership to obtain that food for survival . If this need isnt met, they will die, period. This will only help you save lives, and your hard earned cash!

What Justin said. :D

In particular stay away from mandarin and scooter dragonets for the time being.

Good choices for now are clowns, cardinalfish, firefish, and most gobies. If you see a fish you like, post here about it or research before you buy it! You can never tell when a fish store is telling you it's okay just to make a sale.
