Hey,

I have a 120 gallon reef im setting up and need some help with the plumbing. Its drilled in the back (with build in overflows). Drain is 1" and return is 3/4. I need a ball valve for my return pump to help reduce the flow if needed. Where else should I have a valve? Also, for my drain, should I bring the pvc all the way up the overflow box and drill holes in the pvc, or just leave it empty with no pvc in the box? If someone has a diagram that would be so nice.

Thank you

Joshua

A better way to do your return (if the flow is too much) is to tee it off and route it back to your sump with a ball valve to control the flow back to your sump. and for the drain line in your tank your going to want to put some sort of durso on it (hopefully someone will chime in with a pic of what I'm talking about)

You do not need a ball valve on the drain. You dont want to restrict the flow of the drain only the return.

The overflow box can be set up a few different ways. I have a piece of pvc in mine with a strainer to let water through and no snails or fish. You probably dont need any pvc at all but i would suggest using the strainer so your drain doesnt get clogged. Make sure you leave enough room in your sump to compensate for any water draining durning a power out.
